Dahab translates as ‘Gold ‘ in Arabic and this casual location about 60 minutes upper of Sharm and less than sixty minutes from the global airfield is a gem in the Sinai peninsula. Sharm el Sheikh is tailored much more for travellers unlike Dahab was always a rather more relaxed environment routinely where backbackers would travel to searching for a quieter location. Though the interest in the resort is growing, it is still a good place to go to for people trying to find a rather more low key destination.

The great majority of first time travellers to Egypt will go for the main resorts of Sharm el Sheikh or Hurghada but Dahab features a charm of its own that folk returning to Egypt discovered. All along side the main bay are several little cafes and restaurants, one or two have their own tiny piece of beach. People return here to relax with a drink and look out across the clear, blue waters of the Gulf of Aqaba.

Dahab is also a popular location for divers who make a journey here to dive the legendary ‘Blue Hole’. The dive companies at Sharm el Sheikh and Nuweiba frequently bring divers here for a day trip which gives an indication of the attraction of the dive site. Of all the superb dive sites in Egypt, the Blue Hole in Dahab is viewed as one place that every diver should experience. It's not the only dive site in the Dahab region and the sea is teeming with vivid fish and gorgeous coral formations.

For those in pursuit of a bit of retail therapy, there are several of the common mementos available joined with places to buy jewelry, scents and other fragrances. It will always be possible to negotiate with the market stall owners to try and get a deal and haggling can be part of the shopping experience in most of the ordinary outlets regardless of what they are selling.

Dahab is another brilliant starting point to head out and discover the Sinai. Snorkelling trips are common as are quad bikes away in the desert. Excursions to St Catherine’s Priory high in the mountains are advised, regardless of whether you pick the very early start time to witness the sun rise from Mount Sinai. For those people trying to find a relaxed destination which has a little bit of character, Dahab is definitely worth thinking about.
