Here’s Where You Should Go On Your Trip To The Galapagos Islands.
By w311y: 05/02/12
Travel to the Galapagos Islands is coordinated with the National Park, to be certain that visitors can enjoy their visit while reducing the effects of the people on the natural areas. One important thing to consider when doing the planning for your trip to the Galapagos is what's offered on the tour. Your tour should give you a chance to experience the maximum amount of the Islands as practicable.
The Galapagos are typically dissected into 4 distinct regions: Western, Southern, North, and Central. Each are is unique and has much to supply in the way of distinct flora and fauna. There are many species that are found nowhere else in the world, except on a selected island. A trip to the Galapagos will give you understanding of just how Darwin’s Theory of Evolution works.
Western Galapagos Islands
The western Galapagos, Fernandina and Isabela, are the youngest on the archipelago. These islands have the only active volcanoes, and are still forming. You can see the method of island building close up and private on these islands. They are typically covered in fields of black lava, and support only plants like cactus and mangrove, which don’t require much nutrient in the soil to survive. The ocean nevertheless , is teeming with nutrients and the sea life is not unusual. Here you'll find the best chance for whale watching and contact with dolphins in the Galapagos. The majority of the wildlife here,eg the Galapagos penguins and flightless cormorants, can be discovered nowhere else on Earth.
Southern Galapagos Islands
Travel to the southern Galapagos and you'll find San Cristobal, Espanola, and Floreana, the oldest islands in the area. They were also formed by volcanic action, and moved as the Earth’s plates shifted. At last the volcanoes went extinct, and the islands started to be eroded by wind, rain and sun. Fertile soil began to live in, and now the islands are home to the widest variety of flora and fauna in the Galapagos. These islands also contain species that developed separately because of the isolation of the area, for example the tortoise and mockingbird. This area has straightforward access and has had the most human contact, as well as the most negative impact. Scientists are working to reverse the damage that people have caused.
North Galapagos Islands
Genovesa, the island in the north, features a volcano with a slumped caldera, which allows little boats to sail into it. Boats carrying more than 40 passengers aren't allowed to visit Genovesa. There are more species of birds here than on any other island. Some of the species present are red-footed, blue-footed, and Nazca boobies, tempest petrels, great frigates, short eared owls, and the Darwin finch.
Central Galapagos Islands
The central Galapagos Islands were made in two ways , from volcanoes or from geological uplift. These islands are older than the ones to the west, and younger than those to the south. They look cruel and dry like the western islands, but have the power to support more flora and faun, like those to the south.
